Course Design
By the end of this course, students should:
- Demonstrate the use of straightforward, plain, and linguistically direct language that clearly communicates course requirements through composing written instruction for online classes that takes advantage of the opportunities of online composition tools to mirror traditional types of online communication (i.e., using chunking, formatting, captioning, highlighting, etc.). (3.1 & 3.3)
- Identify methods for setting and communicating course objectives, assignments, and expectations for learning with students regularly and systematically using synchronous and asynchronous modalities. (11.3)
- Demonstrate how to provide problem-centered, text-based feedback for student text that is explicit and thoughtful to improve the writing. (3.4 & 3.5)
- Identify how online-specific design (i.e., redundancy, repetition, and supplementation) reinforces instruction in the online writing course. (3.6, 3.7, & 4.6)
- Identify how the online environment can be used effectively for classroom management and instruction (i.e., holding small group meetings, responding to student texts, and expanding the “classroom,” drafting and reflection). (3.8, 3.9, & 3.11)
